To my knowledge, Russian citizens aren't able to travel independently in China on a tourist (L) visa. So, unless you go with a tour group, you need to get a business (F) visa. There are plenty of agencies in Moscow that can arrange this. They usually charge about $50-$70 and take care of the whole application for you.

But at the moment it might be more difficult than it was in the past due to the tightening of China's visa rules. Try contacting one of the agents and see what they say.
